HOAC Cooperative (Highlands Organic Agricultural Cooperative) in Papua New Guinea
We are very pleased to offer the great coffee from the HOAC Cooperative in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Certified FairTrade, Organic beans roasted by Rosa Coffee.
Great for all brewing methods.
Tastes of chocolate and nuts.
Been loving the medium-dark roast as flat-whites - rich and chocolatey.
Bit of background on the Coop...we'll add more detail soon.
The Coop was established in 2003, has about 2,500 members and has been FairTrade certified since 2005.
It's located in the Eastern Highland province of the Purosa/Okapa Region in PNG.
The coffee is grown in volcanic soil at an altitude 1300-1750 metres.
John Burton in Auckland are the importers of the green coffee beans and have close relationship with HOAC.
FairTrade NZ have a lot to do with the Coop. Other roasters in NZ also roast beans from HOAC and work with HOAC
For example, Kokako Coffee has a very close relationship with HOAC...read more about their recent trip with FairTrade to PNG support HOAC at http://kokakochronicle.tumblr.com/post/162036661598/adding-value-at-origin-part-one-of-three
Also, there is a great read - "How Roasters Can Build Good Relationships With Coffee Producers", which features collaboration between Kokako, FairTrade Aus/NZ and HOAC.
We'll add some more detail soon.
